JALT OLE Spring 2013: OLE at Jalt East Shikoku, PanSIG and JaltCALL
Coordinatorfs preface
As usual, OLE was present at various JALT conferences in early 2013, mainly the larger overarching SIG conferences, such as PanSIG and JaltCALL, and in a local convention, the East Shikoku chapter conference. In this small volume the presenters of OLE-related presentations at said conferences have made their presentations available for general information.
At PanSIG 2013, OLE paired with the Lifelong Language Learning and Japanase as a Second Language special interest groups under the common header: Language learning at all stages and all ages.
At the mentioned conferences, the following presentations dealt with OLE-related topics (in order of date of presentation):
(1) May 11th, East-Shikoku, Kagawa U (Takamatsu): Students as raters (SR) in 2FL German oral exams (Rudolf Reinelt)(Ehime University).
(2) May 18th, PanSIG, Nanzan U (Nagoya): Blended Benefits: Computer to Classroom to Cambodia (Don Maybin)(Shonan Institute of Technology).
(3) May 18th, PanSIG, Nanzan U (Nagoya): Improving German at very old age (Rudolf Reinelt)(Ehime University).
(4) May 18th, PanSIG, Nanzan U (Nagoya): Language Teaching and Nursing faculty collaboration (Eric Fortin)(St. Maryfs College).
(5) May 19th, PanSIG, Nanzan U (Nagoya): Cooperation and Debate as Strategies to Access Specialized Information in other Languages/ La CooperaciÓn y el Debate como Estrategia para Acceder a InformaciÓn Especializada en otras Lenguas (Maggie Foster) (Hachinohe Gakuin University).
(6) May 19th, PanSIG, Nanzan U (Nagoya): How many factors make one successful 2FL course (Rudolf Reinelt) (Ehime University).
(7) June 6th, JaltCALL, Shinshu U (Matsumoto): Student learners as speaking partners in the 2FL German oral exam (Rudolf Reinelt) (Ehime University).
Presentations (1) and (7) have been made into one paper in this volume.
All authors would be grateful, if the presentations are used in order to facilitate and motivate learners and teachers of languages beyond English. Feedback is most welcome to the editor reinelt.rudolf.my@ehime-u.ac.jp with OLESpring13 in the subject line.
We apologize for the considerable delay, with which these presentations become available for the OLE membership. As the summer holidays start closing, work has resumed speed after a long downturn at the end of the spring term.
We are especially grateful to Ehime University for making space available for this service.
Hoping these contributions help with your second foreign language learning and teaching looking forward to seeing you at future OLE conferences
